“She didn’t know” || Poetry series

The sunlight glistened down on her,

She lifted her shroud and ran down the block.

“Nobody must see me” she said.

Suddenly,a crowd gathered by the pole,

She wished to get swallowed by the ground…

..She didn’t know…

She didn’t know she was as fair as the sun..

She didn’t know the sun and the moon adored her beautifully made skin…

Formed with the earth and given life by a God….

She didn’t know…

For her shroud was a shield…

To cover the perfection she deemed ‘Ugly’

Mother nature sees this as a debacle and tries to reveal her beauty…

Mother nature sends the wind to blow away her shroud…

She didn’t know…

She didn’t know her many suitors go away because they feel unworthy of her…

The people look at her from afar…

She didn’t know they were only whispering about her beauty…

She didn’t know…

|Hi Reader|

This short poem was inspired by a girl who tweeted about how ugly she felt around people and how she would always want to be alone.

I know I used the word ‘shroud’ alot, because it represents a cover;we would always want to hide what we think are our ‘imperfections’. But perhaps we are forgetting that if we hide and shield ourselves,we also bury who we really are.

Happy New Year Reader!!
